Well, It's good to see another nation finally doing something as far as manned spaceflight is concerned, but we need to wait for them to advance a bit more before we can really (we meaning the world) take advantage of their ambition.

Next flight is supposed to have 3 astronauts on board....

Unfortunately, I see little reason for the entire program outside of national pride.

Wall Street Journal reported that there is little interest in their space program by the average citizen who is more interested in feeding themselves.

I agree. Their whole intent is pride and for military gain. After all their entire progam is military.
Is this the start of another Space Race?

Space race? Not very likely....

PRC has at least 2 decades to even "catch up"

They should be shopping out their boosters for commercial satellite launches, rather than waste their limited resources on duplicating what the US and Russia did 40 years ago

PRC could actively compete with other countries, and bring in badly needed foreign capital.

i totally agree. Why spend two decades to rebuild an old russian technology when they could be leading the commercial launch market

Would it be unpatriotic for NASA engineers to help chinese space program? I can see in some ways, it would be treasonous.

I'd like to know their long-term intentions. If it's pride and a sense of exploration ---- well, I'm all for it.

From what I have heard, they have their next mission planned as a three man one week duration mission then I have heard they have manned and unmanned lunar exploration planned aswell as a substantial orbital platform. Do we really want them orbiting above us if their program is military?

Post Red Space

They get ONE man up and back safely and they're planning for a MANNED lunar mission already?????!!!!!
Hold on you clowns! You got VERY lucky the first time out!!
IF yes IF it actually was the first time a manned launch
was attempted and the Long March rocket didn't blow up
once it cleared the tower. Which is very probable this
was only the first manned attempt that DID work 100%.
If Red China wanted to have a viable space program they should as R.J. suggested farm out their launch vehicles
to get communication satellites up. Provided the reliability
is there.
